Dr. Carmen Hercules - Professional Development Consultant for Early Childhood Education

Hello, I am Dr. Carmen Hercules.

“Play is the highest form of research.”
-Albert Einstein

I am passionate about teaching Child Development to students, educators, and professionals in the field of Early Childhood.

I graduated from the University of the Pacific with a Doctorate of Education degree. After my graduation, I taught courses at the University of the Pacific. I am currently a part-time professor at our local community college; teaching core courses such as, positive disciple, curriculum, infant and toddler development, observation, assessment, and many other courses related to the field. I also support Child Care Centers with Professional Development Services to improve the quality of care for children and their families.

As a professional, I have presented at Early Childhood Education Conferences including the National Head Start Association (NHSA) and participated in several conferences as a guest speaker. My experience of 23 years in the field provides me with the opportunity to practice in different content areas of Early Childhood. One of the areas was Home-Base, in which I supported parents to use their home as a learning environment to provide activities for children of different ages. This experience led me to work with Family Child Care Providers who also provide educational experiences for different ages.

I also supported the local community college to establish toddler’s classrooms. With this project the priority was to create a nurturing and safe environment for children and college students who attended the practicum experience.

I am a true believer of lifelong learning. With my practice and studies, I have learned about self-efficacy and how adult learning styles vary according to their experience and their own childhood. Throughout my years in the field of education, I have supported young adults and adults to succeed in their careers of early childhood, which led me to gain an array of strategies that support each learning style. It gives me a great satisfaction to see others succeed.

When I am not teaching, I spend my time with my family, I have three grown children, one granddaughter and I share my house with five dogs!!!
